The occipital nerves are a group of nerves that arise from the C2 and C3 spinal nerves.[1][2] They innervate the posterior scalp as far as the vertex and other structures, such as the ear.[2] There are 3 major occipital nerves in the human body: the greater occipital nerve (GON), the lesser (or small) occipital nerve (LON), and the third (or least) occipital nerve (TON).
