The hands are intricate structures. Each has 34 muscles, 29 bones, 3 major nerves, and 2 major arteries. Their complexity supports the work required to produce fine motor movements. The hands' major arteries are the radial and ulnar arteries, which bifurcate from the brachial artery (see Image. Forearm Arteries). These blood vessels form an extensive anastomosis to provide effective circulation to the tissues and prevent ischemic injury. This article focuses on the radial and ulnar arteries.
