At any level of albumin loss, the plasma albumin concentration is approximately 1 g/dL (10 g/L) lower in patients with the nephrotic syndrome, suggesting that some factor in addition to urinary albumin excretion must be involved. Data from Kaysen, GA, Schoenfeld, PY, Kidney Int 1984; 25:107.
