©2013 UpToDate ® Print Email Amiodarone reduces total and sudden death mortality A meta-analysis of randomized trials involving 6553 patients with heart failure or a recent myocardial infarction found that, compared to placebo or usual care, amiodarone significantly reduced total mortality by 13 percent and sudden death mortality by 29 percent.
