©2013 UpToDate ® Print Email Atopic dermatitis in infants In infants with atopic dermatitis, the face often turns red, forms tiny blisters, and forms scales and crusts. The trunk and arms can have similar symptoms, but those areas are usually less severely affected. That's because babies have an easier time scratching their face than other parts of their body, and scratching worsens the symptoms. This baby is squeezing the skin on his chest to relieve the intense itching. Reproduced with permission from: Fitzpatrick, TB, Johnson, RA, Wolff, K, et al (Eds).
