©2013 UpToDate ® Print Email Atovastatin may reduce ischemic events compared with angioplasty The AVERT trial randomly assigned 341 patients with angina and one or two vessel coronary disease to aggressive lipid lowering therapy with atorvastatin or angioplasty. Compared to angioplasty, atorvastatin therapy was associated with a nonsignificant trend toward fewer cardiac events (13 versus 21 percent).
