©2013 UpToDate ® Print Email Beta blocker after MI is effective in patients with chronic lung disease In an analysis of 201,752 patients with an acute myocardial infarction (MI), those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who received a beta blocker had a significant increase in survival at two years compared to patients with COPD who did not receive this therapy (83.2 versus 72.2 percent).
