©2013 UpToDate ® Print Email Propranolol reduces mortality in post-MI patients with persistent ST segment depression In the BHAT study of 2877 patients with a first myocardial infarction (MI), the greatest benefit from treatment with propranolol was in those with persistent ST segment depression after the infarct. Compared to placebo, propranolol resulted in a reduction in total mortality by 65 percent; this translates into 47 fewer deaths (or reinfarctions) per 1000 person-years attributable to propranolol.
